Union’s Marie-Louise Eta to become first female coach in Bundesliga history

German Marie-Louise Eta has joined the staff of the interim head coach of Berlin “Union” Marco Grote will become the first female assistant coach in the German championship, according to the Bundesliga website.

The Union announced on Wednesday the resignation of Switzerland’s Urs Fischer as head coach of the team, with Grote serving as interim head coach. Eta and Grote have previously worked with the Union youth team.

Eta retired from playing in 2018. She played for Hamburg, Werder Bremen and the German national team at various ages.

The Union has suffered 13 defeats and one draw in its last 14 matches in all tournaments. The team with six points occupies the last place in the German championship standings and is also fourth in the Champions League group.
