Ukraine has already earned 0.8 points for the UEFA rating. The goal is to finish in 12th place.

How our country starts the European Cup season

On Tuesday, July 5, the new European Cup season officially started with the opening matches of the first qualifying round of the Champions League in Europe. And although Ukrainian clubs will start their way in European tournaments from the second round of qualification – Dynamo in the Champions League, Vorskla – in the Conference League – Ukraine has already earned the first 0.8 points in the UEFA rating.

Our country received these points for getting Shakhtar into the group stage of the Champions League (Dnipro, we recall, starts in the playoff round of the Europa League qualification, Zorya in the third stage of the Conference League qualification). The four points that a club is entitled to for reaching the Champions League group are divided by five European Cup participants from Ukraine.

Ukraine starts the new European Cup season in 13th place in the odds table. From disqualified due to large-scale military aggression against our country Russia, Ukraine is behind by 1.615 points. At the same time, Russia has already received all the rating points from UEFA for the season, so catching up and getting around it is a completely doable task.

But in this case, it is important not who is ahead, but who is stepping on the heels. Based on the starting layouts, seven countries will compete for the 12th position this season – in addition to Ukraine, these are Switzerland, Norway, Greece, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Denmark. Moreover, the chances of the Swiss look the most preferable at the moment.

Champion of Switzerland – Zurich – goes in the Champions League qualification on the way of champions and starts from the second round of selection against the winner of the pair Lech / Karabakh. Zurich needs to go through one round to guarantee a place in the group stage of one of the European competitions (everything will depend on further results). Basel and Young Boys will be seeded in the Conference League qualification (starting from the second stage), and Lugano, which also landed in the seeding of the LC, will start its tournament path from the third round of selection. So it is likely that all four Swiss clubs will play in the group stage, with three of them in the Conference League, where it is easier to score points.

Among other interesting things, we note five clubs from Germany in the group stage of the Champions League, as well as the high eighth position of Scotland, from which, by the way, Ukraine is nine points behind.
