Riznyk: We practiced on a slippery field – what you need to practice your strikes

The Ukrainian national team in Gdansk is preparing for the match with Italy

Goalkeeper Ukrainian national team Dmitry Riznyk spoke about the team’s training at the training camp before the match with Italy in Euro 2024 qualification.

“We practiced on a slightly slippery field, we hit a few, but all this is what you need to practice your shots. As a goalkeeper, I will say that our players who hit them are all in full readiness. They did it skillfully. Who exactly? I won’t say, there were a lot of blows, and I didn’t pay attention to it.”

“Right now there’s a lot of tactical training, we’re working on a lot of details. I won’t reveal the secrets, but I hope they will work in the match. Intensive work is underway, the guys are giving their all. Everyone communicates with each other and gives each other advice. It’s easier to prepare this way, and many say that’s half the battle. If it’s hard on the field and they tell you something, it gets better.”

“Many of the guys came from Europe, where they recently scored goals, so they are in a good mood before an important game. As for the Italian national team, if you take its composition, there are all star players. They constantly perform at the top level. They are a very strong team and we have to prepare well for them.”

“We have a high level of competition in the goalkeeping department of the national team. But I think that’s how it should be. This is a healthy phenomenon. And, of course, the coach will decide everything.”

Sergei Rebrov’s team will hold a sparring match against Lechia, which is currently represented by Ukrainians Bogdan Sarnavsky, Ivan Zhelizko and Maxim Khlan, as well as ex-Krivbass player Rifet Kapic. The meeting will take place on November 16, starting at 17:00.

The Ukrainian team takes second place in Group C, three points ahead of Italy. Squadra Azzurra played one match less and will play against North Macedonia on November 17.

Sergei Rebrov’s team will play against Italy on November 20 in Leverkusen (Germany) at the Bay Arena stadium, starting at 20:45 local time or at 21:45 Kyiv time. At the end of October, ticket sales for the final match of the blue-yellows in the group round of qualifying began.
