Athletistic/Football. Legendary captain of the England national team and now co-owner of MLS club Inter Miami, David Beckham believes that the arrival of Lionel Messi at his club is a gift both for the United States and for the football league.
“Personally, I still find it hard to believe that Messi plays for Inter Miami. We always knew that Leo moving to the United States, and not just Miami, was a gift for all of America and MLS. Players like him are game changers. People like him inspire a new generation of players.
Of course we want to win trophies. Of course we want to be the best team in MLS. But one of the reasons we bought Leo was to inspire the next generation of footballers in the United States,” Beckham told AFP.
Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami in July 2023. In 14 matches for the American club, the 36-year-old Argentine has scored 11 goals and contributed five assists. The Herons became the first-ever winners of the MLS+MX League Cup in August, but then failed to qualify for the MLS playoffs, finishing only in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings .
