At least five police officers were injured during clashes with fans near the National Stadium in Sofia, where the European Championship qualifying match between Bulgaria and Hungary was taking place, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency reports, citing the Ministry of the Interior of the country.
As previously reported, law enforcement officers were pelted with stones, pyrotechnics and other objects. According to the Interior Ministry, around ten supporters were also injured. Several supporters were arrested and a large number of pyrotechnic products, signal guns and metal pipes were confiscated.
According to Bulgarian media, law enforcement used water cannons to disperse supporters, police cars and ambulances caught fire and dozens of containers were set on fire. Many store windows were broken.
Efforts began to find those responsible for the vandalism, including fans of several teams.
The match took place on Thursday in the Bulgarian capital and ended with a score of 2:2. The match took place without spectators. Before the start of the match, fans demonstrated against the actions of the leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union.
