Under-17 World Cup: Ecuador complies and qualifies for the round of 16

The Guayas youth team, whose base belongs to Independiente del Valle, obtained its advance in the World Cup taking place in Indonesia, after drawing against Panama.

It is in full development Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia . The group stage has entered the right field and little by little the qualifications for the knockout rounds are falling. This Thursday, one of the South American representatives fulfilled the first objective of moving on to the phase. It is Ecuador, who secured their place after a 1-1 draw against Panama, in the closure of zone A.

The Tri opened the scoring in the 24th minute thanks to a goal from Elkin Ruiz. In the second half, the Canaleros equalized thanks to Oldemar Castillo’s goal in the 79th minute. The result did not help the Panamanians try to continue in the race. In fact, they finished last with just two points. The group was won by Morocco with six points, followed by the Ecuadorians. World Cup hosts Indonesia were virtually eliminated as they were third with two points and a margin of -2. In addition to the first two in each group, the best third-place finishers advance.

“We knew it would be a very difficult match because Panama had a chance to qualify and they came to do everything they could. In the end we would have loved to win, but we equalized and qualified, which was our goal,” said Guayas team coach Diego Martínez. An important fact concerns the fact that Ecuador, whose base is Independiente del Valle, has topped its group in five of its six appearances at an Under-17 World Cup.

For its part, Spain wins first place in Group B despite holding a two-goal lead in the 2-2 draw against Uzbekistan in Surakarta. This result means that the Uzbeks are also qualified for the round of 16, as they are guaranteed to be one of the four best third-placed teams. Mali has also made progress in this area. The Africans recorded a resounding 5-1 victory against Canada to ensure their presence in the next round.

This Friday, Argentina enters the field, which will face Poland, in Jakarta, in Group D. The Albiceleste led by Diego Placente have three points and must win to seal their access to the next stage. A lot of their chances depend on what talented River Plate midfielder Claudio “Diablito” Echeverri can do. In zone C, Brazil will face England and weak New Caledonia, who have conceded 19 goals in two matches, will meet Iran.

The other South American present in the World Cup is well profiled. Venezuela adds four points in group F, after a victory and a draw, with the presence of Leenhan Romero, a youngster from the Catholic University. La Vinotinto closes the group stage against Germany, leader of the region, with the concrete chance of condemning its presence in the round of 16.
