The ex-defender of Dynamo, the Ukrainian national team and Arsenal speaks about the war that Ukraine is waging against Russia, which has invaded our country.
Former captain of Dynamo and the Ukrainian national team Oleg Luzhny, in an interview with Sport Arena, shared his thoughts about Russia’s large-scale invasion of our country, the war that Ukraine is waging against the aggressor, and told how he sees Ukraine after the victory.
“I didn’t believe that this could happen. I didn’t believe that the neighboring country would attack us – they were shouting from everywhere that they were brothers. So why then did they do this? This is an insidious stab in the back. Now is a difficult time for our country, and we need to help it in every possible way. I believe that it was the right decision to join the ranks of TrO. We walked and patrolled one of the parts of the city, mainly at night. In particular, in such a group there were two police officers and five volunteers. Of course, I could easily go abroad, but I decided to stay with my family, friends and my country. Everyone who knows me understands that I could not have acted differently in this situation. But no one would understand me if I left Ukraine at that moment.
“Probably, something has changed a little in society for the better after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. In particular, there is more respect for each other. People were united by a common idea and they are helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a consolidated manner. The misfortune brought the community together. It is on these people that the foundation of the new Ukraine should be built. Of course, there are also scoundrels who profit from the war and come up with various corruption schemes. They speculate on facts and simply commit crimes.”
“I almost didn’t talk to the military about football, because then we had no time for such conversations. Now we need to focus specifically on helping our defenders and do everything necessary to bring our Victory closer. I keep in touch with the guys and try to meet their needs with my colleagues. However, I try not to advertise this, because it’s not worth promoting at the expense of our soldiers. It is the responsibility of each of us to do everything necessary to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and bring our Victory closer.”
“I hope and believe that after the Victory we will have a completely different country. Society will demand honest people with a good reputation. Society will not tolerate corruption and neglect of its duties. The country will grow over time and this process is inevitable.”
