The coach commented on the victory over Luxembourg and spoke about the condition of one of the important players of his team – Maxime Bragarou
Head coach Ukrainian national team U-21 Unai Melgosa commented on the victory over Luxembourg in qualification European Youth Championship 2025.
“We are satisfied with the score. As for the match and how we played, there are some points. In the second half we were more aggressive. Well, we were lucky that they were without one player.”
“But I think that in the second half we took one step forward and played much better than in the first. We had chances in both the first and second halves, but I didn’t like the chances in the first as much as in the second. I asked the players to play more attackingly, and it worked in the second half.”
“I’m not completely satisfied. There are some things we need to work on, but I know what. On the other hand, the players on my team are very open to trying something new. Especially in the second half: despite the fact that they [соперников] it was less, we still played better than in the first. We took this step forward compared to the first half. This is not our final step, there are a few more we have to do, but it was good.”
“I don’t know whether Bragara will play [против Азербайджана], we’ll know in a few days. We take great care of our players and don’t force anyone to force themselves. If we use him and he aggravates his injury and misses for a long time… Therefore, we act conservatively, do not put pressure on the player and it is better for him to rest and recover so that he is not injured for a longer period.”
Let us remind you that the Ukrainian youth team easily defeated their peers from Luxembourg (4:0) in a formally home qualifying match for the 2025 European Youth Championship. In the first half, the blue-yellows limited themselves to a single goal by Vladislav Vanat. After the break, having gained a numerical majority, Melgosa’s team scored three more times.
Having won their fourth victory in four matches, the Ukrainian youth team is confidently leading in qualifying group F.
On November 21, Ukraine will host Azerbaijan. The match, like the meeting against Luxembourg, will take place in Murcia, Spain.
