Ex-captain of the Ukrainian national team – about the necessary reforms in Ukrainian football
Former captain of Dynamo and the Ukrainian national team Oleg Luzhny, in an interview with Sport Arena, shared his thoughts on the reforms necessary for Ukrainian football.
“Reforms in Ukrainian football are urgently needed. First of all, we need to move away from the Soviet system. Create a center for the development of regional football in each regional association. It is necessary to understand that football begins locally; there are indeed many talented children in our regions. Adequate infrastructure and trainers are needed. To do this, we need to train personnel, because only professional specialists will be able to raise children correctly. It should be noted that the role of a children’s coach is much different from that of an adult team coach.”
“It is also important that regional associations have more powers. While today the work of only a few regional associations is noticeable, this is extremely small. At the same time, it is regional associations that should be the foundation for the development of local football, because they directly influence organizational and other secondary processes.”
“In addition, it is necessary to look more towards the West and adopt the experience of the best international associations. We need to establish cooperation with them. I communicate a lot with my friends and acquaintances. And I think they would help us implement many programs. Communication with professionals who can share experience and knowledge is very important. We also need high-quality personnel who can adapt the proposed ideas to our realities.”
