The former Ajax footballer, who was five times top scorer in the Dutch championship, has died

Former striker for Ajax Amsterdam and the Netherlands national football team Coarse gels died at the age of 76, reports the club’s press service.

Gels’ cause of death has not been announced.

The footballer played for the Dutch Telstar, Feyenoord, Go Ahead Eagles, Ajax, Sparta, PSV and NAC, as well as the Belgians Bruges and Anderlecht. He became the top scorer in the Dutch league five times and scored 252 goals in 360 Eredivisie matches.

With Feyenoord, Geels won the European Cup in 1970. The striker played 20 matches for the national team and scored 11 goals. He was part of the national team that won silver at the 1974 World Championships, but did not participate in the tournament matches.
