Rebrov: It will be a completely different game than at San Siro. We have good chances to qualify for the European Championship

The blue-yellow coach noted the strength of the future opponent

Head coach of the national team Ukraine Sergey Rebrov at a press conference before the match against the national team Italy spoke about his team’s preparation for the decisive confrontation as part of the qualifications Euro 2024.

“Not both teams need a win. But we reviewed our last game, it is very important that there is information that we conveyed to the players. They are ready, it will be a different game. I am sure that tomorrow we will have excellent support here in Germany. We only need a victory and, starting from this, we will build our game.”

“We looked at a lot of tactics on our side. How will Italy play? There are a lot of good players there who can play both defense and attack. This is a very intense team, they played two days ago, but they have several lineups. We have already decided everything, but tomorrow we will give information to our players about how we will play. Italy will not play for a draw, they are not a team that will close in from behind. And the wrong coach.”

“Test match with Lechia? We played behind closed doors because it was a meeting against a club, not a national team. This meeting was considered as a stage of preparation for the match against Italy. This game was in our plan, it was a useful match, no one was injured. All the players will be at training today. It was an important match before the meeting with Italy.”

“I haven’t been working with the national team for long, but I really like the atmosphere in the team, regardless of how the players perform in their clubs. Playing for the national team is a completely different responsibility. I hope good matches, such as Shakhtar’s game against Barcelona, will give confidence to our players. Matches at this level really give confidence to the players.”

“I think we have a good chance of qualifying for the European Championship. It will be a completely different game than it was at San Siro. Tomorrow we will have good support, I remember how they supported us in Bremen. I hope tomorrow there will be the same atmosphere. I hope the players will have the right motivation, the players should not be afraid of losing tomorrow, they should be afraid of not doing enough to win.”

“People in Ukraine must react to Čeferin’s words. It is very important for football players to be mentally prepared. They must forget about all the statements in the press and concentrate on the game. I believe that these statements will not affect our players in any way; on the contrary, they will be more angry. Only we can make tomorrow’s result.”

“I have a lot of respect for the Italian team, but I have confidence in my guys. We have a very good team. I don’t need Italian national team players, although we understand its strength. The best football players are gathered there. We respect Italy, but I’m very happy to work with my players.”

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian national team arrived in Leverkusen on Saturday, November 18, where the key match of the entire qualifying tournament will take place.

The Italian team is in second place in Group C with 13 points. Ukraine also has 13 points, but is inferior to Italy in additional indicators. To qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score in a head-to-head match in the last round.

Ukraine will play against Italy on Monday, November 20, in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time.

The Ukraine-Italy match will be refereed by the Spanish team led by Jesus Gil Manzano. The Ukrainian anthem before the match will be performed by Sergei Ivanchuk, who miraculously survived enemy shelling in 2022.

In the first head-to-head match of Group C, which took place in September, the Italians beat Ukraine (2:1). Davide Frattesi scored a brace for Squadra Azzurra, and Andrei Yarmolenko scored a goal for the blue-and-yellows.

In October, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said Italy “must qualify for Euro 2024.”
