Rebrov’s team has insurance in case of failure to win over Italy
The team’s failure to lose Serbia coupled with simultaneous defeat Montenegro guaranteed Ukraine trip to playoffs qualifications European Championship 2024.
If Sergei Rebrov’s team fails to beat Italy on November 20 and qualify for the Euro directly from second place in its group, it will have a backup option – the Nations League playoffs.
To get there, it was necessary that at least two of the four teams that had previously won their groups in Division B of the Nations League would qualify directly for the Euro. Scotland has coped with this task previously. Today it was joined by the Serbian team, which was ahead of Montenegro in its group.
Thus, in case of failure to defeat Italy, the Ukrainian team will automatically qualify for the playoffs of the Nations League. Rebrov’s team will be waiting for the “final four” of division A or division B – this will be decided by a draw.
If they get into the playoffs of Division B, the Ukrainian team’s opponents will be Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel and Finland.
If we get into the playoffs of Division A, our team will have to compete with Wales, Poland and Estonia.
Ukraine will play against Italy on Monday, November 20, in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time.
The Italian team is in second place in Group C with 13 points. Ukraine also has 13 points, but is inferior to Italy in additional indicators. To qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score in a head-to-head match.
