The Breton club scored only one point in the last five rounds of the championship
Rennes broke up with the head coach Bruno Genesio and appointed to this post Julien Stefan.
Genesio left the club “by mutual agreement”, in particular “for personal reasons. The new coach will be officially presented at a press conference on Monday, November 20.
Stefan, 43, has previously coached Rennes. Since 2012, he has worked with the Red-Blacks’ youth team, and since 2015 he has led the second team. Julien, the son of the famous coach Guy Stéphane, first became the head coach of Rennes in December 2018 and spent 110 matches at the helm of the team until he was replaced by Genesio in March 2021. And now the time has come for “reverse castling”.
Surely the management’s decision was influenced by the disastrous results of the Breton club. In the last five rounds, Rennes scored only one point and dropped to 13th place in the Ligue 1 standings. In the last match of Genesio, the Red-Blacks lost at home to the crisis Lyon – this victory was the first for the Weavers of the season.
At the same time, Rennes is performing successfully in the Europa League – three wins in four matches, first place in Group F.
On November 26, in the first match after Stephane’s return, Rennes will host Reims.
