The game Ukraine – Italy will determine the team that will directly qualify for Euro 2024
Ex-forward Dynamo And Milanand former head coach Ukrainian national team And Genoa Andrey Shevchenko commented on the decisive confrontation between Ukraine And Italy in qualifying for Euro 2024.
“This is a very important match, more than a game for all of us. Despite the war, despite having to play every home game away from home and the difficulties we face domestically, the team is still in a good position. Obviously, there has been a generational change in the national team, but we have valuable players such as Mudrik, Sudakov and Tsygankov.”
“Rebrov did an excellent job in a very difficult situation. He developed his philosophy and the team was reborn. At this stage we have nothing to lose, but this does not mean that we are satisfied with what has been achieved.”
“I’m afraid of the whole Italian team, not individual players. Luciano Spalletti is highly motivated. I have a lot of respect for Luciano, he is a great coach, one of the best, and he certainly wants to take Italy to the top after the disappointment at the World Cup. The Azzurri are strong and have quality players. Qualification means a lot to them, but we are ready to prove ourselves because this game is different from others.”
Ukraine will play against Italy today in Leverkusen (Germany) at the BayArena stadium. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time. The squad for the match did not include defenders Alexander Karavaev and Maxim Taloverov, as well as midfielder Yegor Nazarina.
The Italian team is in second place in Group C with 13 points. Ukraine also has 13 points, but is inferior to Italy in additional indicators. To qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score.
If Ukraine fails to beat Italy and qualify directly for the Euro from second place in its group, it will have a fallback option – the Nations League playoffs. Rebrov’s team will be waiting for the “final four” of division A or division B.
