Mikhalik: The Ukrainian national team is combat-ready, it can take on any opponent. But provided that all players are ready to jump over their heads

Taras believes that Rebrov and his team will do everything to make it a Ukrainian evening in Leverkusen today

Ex-defender Ukrainian national team Taras Mikhalik shared his expectations from the decisive qualifying match Euro 2024 in Group C, in which our national team will fight with Italian national team.

“Squadra Azzurra is an inconvenient opponent for the Ukrainian team, which has only lost twice in the matches it has played. But in life, sooner or later, something always happens for the first time. So why not break this sad winless streak today in Leverkusen and take the upper hand for the first time? Moreover, to win a direct pass to Euro 2024, our guys only need a victory.”

“In Leverkusen, the confident actions of two or three of our players will not be enough to tip the scales in our favor. It is necessary for the entire Ukrainian team to demonstrate their best qualities. By the way, as for me, our current team is combat-ready and is capable of fighting any opponent. But, I repeat, provided that all players are ready to jump, figuratively speaking, in over their heads.”

“Italy is not only an inconvenient opponent, but also a powerful one. That is why it is important that in Leverkusen not only all the puzzles come together, but also that luck is on our side. I think that Rebrov and his players are well aware of this and will make sure that today there is a Ukrainian evening at the Bay Arena.”

“We can only believe that even with a long-term martial law in Ukraine, our football players can win big victories in the international arena.”

Today, November 20, Ukraine will play with Italy in Leverkusen, Germany. A full house is expected at the BayArena. The meeting starts at 21:45 Kyiv time.

Luciano Spalletti’s team is in second place in Group C with 13 points. Ukraine also has 13 points, but is inferior to Italy in additional indicators. To qualify for the Euro directly, Sergei Rebrov’s team needs to beat Squadra Azzurra with any score.

If Ukraine fails to beat Italy and qualify directly for the Euro from second place in its group, it will have a fallback option – the Nations League playoffs. Rebrov’s team will be waiting for the “final four” of division A or division B.
