Pavelko’s detention was extended until January 18, 2024

The UAF President will remain in pre-trial detention for at least two more months

President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andrey Pavelko will remain in Pre-trial detention center for at least another two months. According to FootballHub, the functionary’s period of detention was extended until January 18, 2024.

The previous period of the preventive measure was valid until November 23. In mid-June, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Lvov imprisoned Pavelko in a pre-trial detention center for a period of 60 days, then the functionary’s stay in custody was extended. The bail of 9.88 million hryvnia, which was previously paid for the head of the UAF, was transferred in favor of the state.

In November, the prosecutor’s office completed a pre-trial investigation in a criminal case against Pavelko and the organization’s general secretary, Yuri Zapisotsky, on suspicion of embezzlement of public funds.

The UAF considers the entire process to be custom work from former association leaders. In 2018, the “Schemes” program conducted an investigation, as a result of which journalists suspected the UAF and its president Andrei Pavelko of corruption through a plant for the production of artificial fields.

Most clubs in the Ukrainian Premier League and most regional football associations demand that the Ukrainian Football Association convene an extraordinary reporting and election Congress. If such a congress takes place, then a new UAF president should be elected at it instead of Pavelko, who is under investigation.
