Czech national team coach Shilgavy resigned after the team reached the European Championship

Czech specialist Yaroslav Chilgavy announced his resignation as head coach of the Czech national football team after the team reached the final stage of the 2024 European Championship.

On Monday, the Czechs defeated the Moldovan team at home in the match of the final round of the qualifying round – 3:0. The Czech national team with 15 points took second place in Group E and qualified for Euro 2024.

— I would like to thank the guys for achieving our goal of qualifying for the European Championship. Although we are happy, we decided before the match not to continue with the national team. I informed the president of the federation Petr Fousek. The pressure was enormous, sometimes I didn’t even realize it. This was also one of the reasons for the decision. I am confident that we have done our job and are leaving behind good results,” quotes Shilgava website Czech Football Federation.

Shilgavy took over as head of the Czech national team in September 2018. Under his leadership, he reached the quarter-finals of the 2020 European Championship, but failed to qualify for the final stage of the World Championship 2022.

The European Championship will take place from June 14 to July 14, 2024. Ten German cities will host the tournament matches: Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
