The head coach of the Ukrainian national football team commented on the result of the match in the group round of qualifying for the Euro.
The players of the Ukrainian national team showed character and fought until the end, but it was not enough to beat Italy. This is how the head coach of the national team, Sergei Rebrov, commented on the result of the qualifying match for Euro 2024.
In addition, the specialist expressed confidence in the violation of Mudrika rules in the penalty area in the last minutes, where the referee did not give a penalty.
“I also think that there was a clear penalty on Mudrika, but there was VAR. From my point of view, it was a penalty kick. But we are not the ones who decide. Probably, when looking at VAR, we did not see the foul. There people there watching…
We had a game plan. We played against the reigning European champions. It is very difficult to keep putting pressure on this team from the first minutes. Therefore, in the first half we concentrated more on defense, and in the second we played harder, more pressing, thanks to this we won the ball back and created opportunities. Yes, now the men are very upset because they did not achieve the results. But I think they showed a good game, I just want to thank them.
Of course it’s difficult. Few people believed us. We fought until the last game. I am grateful to the players who have worked with us for almost six months. They showed an understanding of our game and showed the Ukrainian character. As you know, the war in Ukraine continues. This is difficult for players who are always looking at their phones, following the news, like me. It is not easy to work in this environment. But we all understand that we represent a strong country, which we have shown on the field. We showed character and fought for our country.
I love playing in Germany, I’m sure the players here love it too. I thank Leverkusen and Germany for the opportunity to play in this wonderful stadium. There was a wonderful atmosphere during the anthem. The Italians applauded us – it was a very emotional thing. This match was shown in many countries. The Italians showed respect and support for Ukraine, the atmosphere was great,” the UAF website quoted Rebrov as saying.
We remind you that the Ukrainian national team played a draw with Italy in the last round of qualifying for Euro 2024 and was not able to directly qualify for the tournament.
