Rafal Rostkowski believes that Manzano should have reviewed the episode on the monitor and awarded the penalty.

The world of football continues to discuss the scandalous situation with the unassigned penalty against Italy in the match against Ukraine.

Former Polish referee and now expert Rafal Rostkowski considered unacceptable the fact that VAR did not review the penalty kick in the Ukraine-Italy match.

In his opinion, Manzano should have at least watched a replay of the episode with a possible violation of monitor rules.

“I believe that the lack of reaction from VAR is a scandal. It should not be downplayed. It is obvious that Ukraine earned a penalty. Brian Cristante very obviously fouled in his own penalty area. Perhaps Mikhail Mudryk let the ball go too far, don’t know if he reached the ball, but that doesn’t diminish the offense Cristante committed.

The Italian defender made a serious mistake. He did not hit the ball, but the leg of the Ukrainian. He interrupted his actions, and, unfortunately, now it is impossible to know if Mudryk reached the ball and what may follow. That’s just foul for sure. From the point of view of the game, the situation is simple. It’s hard for me to say why it happened that VAR didn’t tell referee Gil Manzano that he should look at it on the monitor,” Rostkowski was quoted as saying by Przegladsportowy.

Earlier, Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also admitted that the referee could give a penalty against him.
