The journalists admitted the obvious mistake of the Spanish referee Montano in the qualifying match for Euro 2024.
Most of the Italian journalists did not like the game of their own team against the Ukrainian team. And what I didn’t like the most was the way to achieve the desired result.
Many media representatives recognized a clear foul in his own penalty area by Cristante on Mudrik at the end of the match.
Paolo Ziliani added Čeferin’s words to the picture with the foul on Mudrik that Italy must play at Euro 2024.
“Silent tweet,” the journalist captioned the photo.

Maurizio Pistocchi did not understand the motives of the judge who refused to watch the episode on the monitor:
“The difference between a fan and a journalist must be visible, and it depends on the fact that the journalist is able to express the right judgment when commenting on the preliminary decision in the sensational episode: Cristante’s beating of Mudrik is a clear foul – a right knee to the left leg. A clear, clear foul, the VAR should have wanted to intervene.”

Andrea Tiberio compared the episode that happened with Mudryk to the scandal related to Thierry Henry’s handball in the playoff match with Ireland, which led the French to the 2010 World Cup.
“Similarly, entering the Euro with deception against Ukraine is no less shameful,” he wrote.

Fabrizio Biazin took and put himself in the place of the Ukrainians.
“What I’m sure of is that if we hadn’t been given that penalty, I would have been screaming.”
L’unica certezza che ho è che se non lo avssero dato a noi mi sarei incazzato come una iena. #UkrainaItalia pic.twitter.com/bJHKTtoOag

Napoli historian and journalist Angelo Forgione also saw the apparent punishment from Cristante and similarly compared himself to the Ukrainians:
“If I were Ukrainian, I would be in tears in their place. And I would cry about it less loudly, because in football – and this was in the days of VAR! – how can you not see Cristante’s right knee touching the opponent’s foot. An obvious penalty. This is the situation.”
Se fossi ucraino griderei allo scandalo. And lo grido lo same, perché nel calcio ai tempi del VAR non si può non vedere il contacto del geniocchio destro di #Christian con la gamba dell’adversario #Rigore solar.

The publication SPORTbible with an audience of 2.1 million predicts that other referees will not be so ashamed of what Monzano did:
“Ukraine was not allowed to take a penalty in the 92nd minute, after an attack on Mikhail Mudryk. If Ukraine had won, they would have advanced, but after a 0-0 draw, Italy officially qualified. And for to the referees, this will also be a night that they will truly love, I want to forget, but alas!
Ukraine was not awarded a penalty in the 92nd minute after a challenge on Mykhailo Mudryk ❌
A win would see Ukraine through, however Italy are now officially qualified after a 0-0 draw 😬
A night to forget for the referees on the other side 😅 pic.twitter.com/HURpzm9lhW

Earlier, Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also admitted that the referee should have awarded the penalty against him.
