Former Russian national team and CSKA midfielder Alan Dzagoev was a gifted player who did a lot for himself and for the military club, his former national team partner told Andrey Arshavin .
On Tuesday, Dzagoev announced his retirement at the age of 33. His last club was the Greek Lamia.
“From what I heard, Alan was seriously injured. I think the decision to end my career had something to do with it. It is difficult to comment on the fact that he was often injured. This means that he simply has such a physiology.
— Dzagoev is often compared to you in talent.
— It’s difficult to assess. But he’s certainly a gifted player. A good, intelligent and technical footballer who sees the pitch well. He did a lot for CSKA and for himself,” Arshavin told .
During his playing career, Dzagoev also played for Krylya Sovetov-SOK and Rubin Kazan. While at CSKA, the midfielder became a three-time champion of Russia, winning the country’s Cup and Super Cup each four times. The footballer played 59 matches for the Russian national team and scored nine goals.
