The Romanian specialist does not want to see weak teams in the world team tournaments.
Mircea Lucescu spoke out against the participation of weak teams in the World and European Championships. The Romanian specialist, who is 78 years old, said in an interview with Gazeta Sporturilor that he does not understand the current rules of FIFA and UEFA.
It is especially difficult for the national team of Kazakhstan, which is fighting to the end to reach the finals of Euro 2024. And even after taking 4th place in the group, the Kazakhs still have a chance to reach the playoffs of Nations League.
“Today there are so many teams that have qualified for the final stage of Euro 2024. When I was a coach, there were 8 teams in the Euro, and only 7 were selected due to qualification. Now there are 24. In the World Cup there will be 32, then 48. Very small countries can enter the tournament.
Kazakhstan in Euro 2024? This would be completely and utterly abnormal. It’s really unbelievable that UEFA allows something like this, it’s unbelievable,” said Lucescu.
We remind you that the Ukrainian national team cannot beat Italy and they will try to enter the Euro through the Nations League playoffs.
