Real held preliminary talks with De Zerbi

Shakhtar’s ex-coach may lead the Madrid club next summer

Real held preliminary negotiations with Brighton’s coach Roberto De Zerbi.

The Blancos management values the specialist’s ability to work with young people. The Madrid club is preparing in advance for the departure of Carlo Ancelotti, so they positively assess the possibility of cooperation with De Zerbi and have already held the first negotiations with the mentor.

At the same time, Madrid has not yet decided on the final candidacy of the new coach. Real Madrid is actively considering the option of ex-club player Xabi Alonso, now coaching Bayer Leverkusen.

Current Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has agreed on his appointment to the Brazilian national team. The Italian specialist will lead the Pentacampeons in June 2024.

It was previously reported that the Blancos coach could lead the Brazilian national team last summer, and the Seleção plan to sign a three-year contract with the Italian. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez denied rumors about the Italian’s departure, saying that he would see out his contract.

De Zerbi is known for his work with Shakhtar in the 2021/22 season. The Italian won the Ukrainian Super Cup and was also in first place with the team when the championship was stopped due to a full-scale Russian invasion.

Since September 2022, Shakhtar’s ex-mentor has led Brighton. His contract runs until 2026, and the agreement also stipulates a high compensation amount.

Real are in second place in La Liga and have already secured the Champions League playoffs this season. Brighton is in eighth place in the Premier League and claims to qualify for the Euro-spring in the Europa League (second place after four games).
