“I think next year there may be a meeting between the national teams of Russia and Mexico; much will depend on the decision of the football federations. We recognize that politics currently influences sporting events. In Mexico we also oppose the politicization of sport. We hope that we will have the opportunity to organize such a match,” Mejías said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
In 2023, the Russian national team played six friendly matches: against Iran (1:1), Iraq (2:0), Qatar (1:1), Cameroon (1:0), Kenya (2:2) and Cuba (8:0).
