According to the promoter, the Briton does not have the strongest chin
British promoter Barry McGuigan shared his opinion about how the ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou showed the weakness of the WBC title holder in heavyweight Tyson Fury and shook his position as a favorite in the upcoming unification fight with the world champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO Alexander Usik.
“You have to take this performance into account. Francis Ngannou is a very strong guy, robotic, one-sided, has a good front hook. Besides that, he really didn’t have the ability to throw fast combinations, he kept repeating the same thing and, amazingly, the world heavyweight champion was knocked down by his punch.”
“Let’s be honest: Tyson has been on the canvas I don’t even know how many times. So he doesn’t have the strongest chin. He got up and was much more cautious the rest of the time and I still thought he won the fight, but it wasn’t impressive. To some extent, he let himself down.”
“So, speaking about this in relation to Usyk, it is worth considering that Fury was always the favorite, but to a lesser extent after the fight [с Нганну]. We need to get Usyk back into the game again. It will be a largely even fight. If Tyson fights the way he fought Francis Ngannou, Usyk will beat him.”
The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the fight was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh. However, it later became clear that the “Gypsy King” would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. At the same time, the ex-UFC champion knocked Tyson down in the third round, but the Briton managed to return to the fight. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in this fight.
Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
