The CBF exempted itself from responsibility for the chaos in the Brazil x Argentina crowd, at Maracanã, which was marked by violence from police forces
After Brazil x ArgentinaThe CBF spoke out in relation to the confusion that occurred before the match. The highest football entity in the green and yellow country declared that the police forces were responsible for taking care of security on site. Furthermore, the organization noted that it did not have its own representatives at Maracanã.
“CBF does not have a person organizing the match. We hired Consórcio Maracanã and the entire operation was carried out by the Consortium. The PM participated in everything, knew how it was going to be. The Selection Game has no division, it’s normal. They have to consider whether there is a risk or not. Nobody saw a red flag, they say they didn’t participate in the operation, but they did. It’s not the CBF that has to measure risk, it doesn’t even have the structure to evaluate it”said Rodrigo Paiva, head of communications at CBF.
“A month ago, the police banned two games on the same day in São Paulo. We had to modify the table because it was the PM’s decision. She has the autonomy to define whether or not there can be a game, whether there is possibility and confrontation. We did not participate in the operation of the game, the operation is carried out by the consortium, and security by the police”he added.
During the game’s break, Colonel Ferreira told “SporTV” that the implementation of a mixed crowd was a mistake. “This was a huge ‘hinder’ for private security, which requested reinforcements from the Military Police. The PM had to use the necessary means. We managed to stabilize the riot through physical isolation with the police.”he explained.
