Bondar: For a foul on me in the match with Polesye I should have been given a red card

Shakhtar defender was injured in the last UPL match

Defender Shakhtar Valery Bondar commented on the results of the 15th round match Ukrainian Premier League with Polesie (0:0).

“I think that we fully deserved the victory: the game was under our control, we tried to score our own goals. I had two points that I didn’t realize – this is a skill that needs to be worked on, and somewhere it’s my fault, because I could have opened the scoring and changed this match, and then we would have finished with a more positive result. Therefore, this is, of course, bad and you need to work on these aspects in training. However, I think we had enough chances to take three points in this match.”

“Perhaps there is a lot to say, but we have had many moments this season when our players received red cards for the same violations. And I am sure that in that episode there was a clean red card, and the game could have turned out completely differently. I also think, no matter what minute such a foul occurs, in the 10th or 50th, he deserves to be sent off.”

“We have VAR, we have qualified referees who do this, but a lot of talk is about the referees, and there are a lot of controversial issues related to this particular team that allow them to score points. Perhaps this says something. Therefore, these moments cannot be left unattended; there must be a committee that will consider such episodes and give an appropriate assessment to the referees – both those sitting on the VAR and refereeing the match. If you look at the moment, this is a straight and clear red card, in my opinion. Our players were given such cards, and I don’t know why Polesie is not given them. Probably something is being done in our football and outside of football, let’s put it this way.”

“In fact, it was very difficult to finish this match, because I received a rather unpleasant injury, which now does not allow me to fully prepare for the Champions League match. Now we need to deal with this very moment, recover and prepare for the game with Antwerp. I hope all be fine. But, of course, this upsets me very much, because the game ahead is very important for us and we need to think about it, but now all my thoughts are about how to heal my leg and prepare for the game.”

Bondar played through the entire match of the 15th round, finishing the game with damage. In the very opening of the match between Shakhtar and Polesie, Efim Konoplya was unable to continue the game. During the break, also due to injury, his opponent Beni Makuana was replaced.

On Tuesday, November 28, Shakhtar will play in Hamburg against Antwerp in the Champions League. And on December 3, Marino Pusic’s team will host Metalist 1925 in Lviv.
