Election divides Corinthians board and could be an obstacle for new president

Half of the 200 elected three-year councilors supported Augusto Melo, however, the other 50% sided with the defeated candidate, André Negão

Between the years 2024 and 2026, Augusto Melo will be the president of Corinthians. However, your mandate must have a deliberative Council Divided. Of the 200 councilors elected this past Saturday, the 25th, half supported the club’s next president, but the other half were on the side of the defeated one, André Negão.

Those who should make a difference in all of this are the life councilors, who have a guaranteed mandate and do not need to be elected by vote. Currently, there are 104 of them, corresponding to more than a third. The composition matters as it is the Council that approves the club’s accounts and contracts. The more support Augusto Melo has in the body, the more peace of mind he will have in managing the club.

The number of votes needed for election to the council has practically doubled since the last election, as the number of members eligible to vote has increased. Each elected ticket has 25 seats. This year, the most voted ticket was “Preto no Branco”, with 452 votes. “Renewal and Transparency”, led by Andres Sanchezcame in eighth place, with 279, just seven more than the first substitute, “Liberdade Corintiana”, from Craque Neto. The lack of diversity continues to be a problem. In politics, only 6% of women make up the Deliberative Council.
