Vice-President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation, candidate master of sports Artem Sachuk died in the war with the Russian occupiers. He was 38 years old.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, Sachuk volunteered for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In April 2023, Lieutenant Sachuk was awarded the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine” for personal courage shown in defending the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the selfless performance of military duty.
Earlier it was reported that former professional football player Alexander Gonchar, Dynamo fan Sergei Pavlichenko and Chernigov SDYUSHOR coach Vsevolod Bodun died in the war with Russia. Also in November, multiple world champion in kickboxing Sergei Lysyuk, winner of the Ukrainian hockey championship as part of the White Leopard Alexey Loginov and master of sports in boxing Ivan Soltysik died.
In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 641st day.
