Kvartsyany: As long as I’m alive, I won’t give up trying to revive FC Volyn

The club will not resume performances in 2024

Former coach of FC Volyn, and now head of the Volyn Football Association Vitaly Kvartsyany spoke about the idea of resuming performances of the Lutsk club at a professional level.

“As long as I’m alive, I will not give up trying to revive FC Volyn. But I don’t want to tell much, so as not to scare potential investors. Success loves silence.”

“There is a bearing plant in Lutsk, one of the few in Ukraine that was functioning and producing products. It is owned by the Swedish company SKF. For my 70th birthday, I went to Gothenburg for a children’s tournament. There I met with SKF management. My former student Raymond Laizans, who speaks English and Swedish, helped organize the meeting. He just brought the youth of FC Riga to the tournament.”

“I am looking for many options: I once met both the Chinese and the Americans. The Chinese wanted to buy FC Volyn three years ago. I talked to the management, they were neither yes nor no, and in the end they refused to sell the club. Then the war ruined all plans.”

“The owners of Volyn do not want to talk about this topic yet. I am talking with former employees of FC Volyn, they do not want to open their cards completely, but time is running out. Let them tell you what needs to be done – pay compensation or repay the money invested in order to obtain legal succession. If after some time they themselves want to revive the club, then we will look for other clubs from the Lutsk region and start with the Second League.”

“I think we will find a common language with the PFL so that they will allow us to start immediately from the second league if we provide investor guarantees. We already have a club in mind that has the infrastructure and support of local OTG authorities. I don’t want to reveal the name of the club yet. A team from the village has already played in the UPL, this is Ingulets, so why don’t we try?”

The 70-year-old coach led Volyn at different periods, starting in 1989. His most famous coaching activity came from 2001. Since 2017, Kvartsyany has been the honorary president of the Lutsk club.

According to information Sports Arena, Volyn will not return to professional football next year. She will likely miss at least one more season.

Let us remember that in March 2023, the head coach of Volyn U-19 Albert Shakhov spoke about the possibility for the first team of the Lutsk club to enter the Second League. According to a specialist at the time, “the club suspended its activities, but was not liquidated.”

However, in the summer, Volyn was expelled from the Professional Football League along with four other clubs that did not apply to continue the temporary suspension of participation in the competition for the 2023/24 season, did not pay membership fees and do not continue to operate.

In September, ex-player and coach of the Lutsk team Taras Mikhalik said that there was no question of Volyn returning to professional football. According to him, the investor refused financing. “Now there is a children’s school, but the club has ceased to exist,” Taras said.

Volyn took tenth place in the final standings of the 2021/22 season in the First League, which was ended early due to the invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine. Since then, the question of the Lutsk club resuming performances has repeatedly arisen, but so far this option has not been implemented.
