ExclusivePeroni: “In Perugia we could reach Serie A. Now I’m ready for it again”

An important past from Serie A to Serie C, covering various roles from team manager to director of the technical area, with memorable seasons in Pesaro and Perugia, as well as a present of constant renewal in anticipation of a new opportunity that could arise in the next few weeks. Interviewed Tuttomercatoweb.com manager Alessio Peroni he spoke about his present and future, and also addressed some current issues, starting with tax exemption. Massimiliano Alvini, famous during his time in Perugia, from La Spezia: “I had the opportunity to work with him, he is a very well-prepared coach with an important squad. Working for a club like Spezia, who had just been relegated, was certainly not easy, especially trying to recover from last year’s fiasco.”

and bounce back from last year’s fiasco. However, he has charisma and I am sure that he will soon have a new opportunity to coach at important stages, including in Serie A.”

In Perugia that year you were close to promotion.

“We did a fantastic job with Comotto, who really wanted me, was even close to promotion, then the points of view changed and no longer coincided, these things happen. However, I am sure that if we had stayed, everything would have gone differently and we would have achieved promotion to Serie A.”

You remained tied to the square

“Yes, I was sorry for what happened in the summer. After a well-deserved relegation, I believe that according to the regulations, Perugia should have been allowed back into Serie B. Without taking anything away from Lecco, who performed a great miracle and deserved to play in the second series. The right decision, in my opinion, was to expand the number of teams in Serie B. At the same time, I wish President Santopadre to return to Serie B as soon as possible.”

Maybe already this year?

“It’s difficult because there is a Cesena team that, in my opinion, can win the championship with an advantage after a long recovery plan. Torres is a surprise ranking that Serie C offers every year, but I think this is the right year for the Romagna team.”

After finishing his adventures in Perugia, he took a sabbatical. Did you have contact to restart?

“There were a few interviews over the summer, but I wanted to wait and stay calm after being stuck as either team manager or technical director for many years.”

It’s a role she’d love to reprise.

“In my last experience in Pesaro we did a great job, getting closer to qualifying for the play-offs after starting from penultimate place when I was given the role of technical director in January. There is an important situation that we are discussing right now, and let’s see if we can close it soon. Personally, I believe in people’s words rather than contracts, I want everything to be clear and I don’t like to settle or do without problems. The idea of starting over tickles me, I miss the smell of grass, but I need a project that I can believe in.”

What do you do while waiting for a call?

“I follow the news, watch a lot of matches live because I think it’s fundamental to this job, and when I can’t I use video or television. I also try to stay in constant contact with the environment because I believe that relationships in football are very important, they are fundamental to even giving advice or advice. Lately I have strengthened my connection with Julio Sergio, former Roma goalkeeper during Totti’s era and now a prosecutor. I have a great friendship with him. It’s a way to not switch off completely. Then the right opportunity often comes when you least expect it.”
