Shakhtar U-19 beat Antwerp U-19 and remained in third place in Group H of the UEFA Youth League
Head coach Shakhtar U-19 Alexey Belik commented on the victory over Antwerp U-19 in the fifth round UEFA Youth League (3:1).
“We won, thanks to the guys, but not everything is so smooth, because we will always look for what we need to be better at. We quickly opened the scoring and after that we should have played more confidently, but we relaxed and thought that the victory would be easy. We conceded the goal after an individual error and thank you for showing the miner’s character and snatching the victory.”
“I won’t stop repeating: I don’t remember Barcelona U-19 or Porto U-19 outplaying us when they scored goals – we ourselves helped them in this by making individual mistakes. I’m happy about the victory, but upset because we don’t have enough to compete for the playoffs. Apparently, they lack confidence, their own stadium and fans. However, thanks to Hamburg and the fans who were present at the match, this is very important for us.”
“The Champions League is the Champions League, every victory or goal is a great experience, we must fight in every moment. Before the match, he said that we must win 100%, because we are at the level of Barcelona U-19 and Porto U-19. If we had lost, we would have been compared to Antwerp U-19, but I believe that our level is higher. We will try our best in the match against Porto.”
Alexander Yushchenko and Danil Savin scored goals for Alexey Belik’s team. The second and decisive goal was scored by the Belgian club player Sofyan El-Mazhad.
Belik’s team, with six points, remains third in Group H. The miners have lost their chances of reaching the playoffs. In the second match of the fifth round of Group H, Porto U-19 defeated Barcelona U-19, after which the Portuguese and Spanish teams had 12 points per round until the end.
In the final round, the young men from Shakhtar will play away against Porto. The meeting will take place in Portugal on December 13.
