The hosts’ winning game was broken by the removal of Ocampos
In a bright confrontation of the fifth round Champions League Seville gave in at home PSVleading during the second half by two goals – 2:3.
The Spanish team was closer than ever to its first victory in the current competition. They won the first half thanks to a goal from super-veteran Sergio Ramos. At the very start of the second half, Youssef En-Nesyri ran towards Walter Benitez’s goal and skillfully beat the goalkeeper – 2:0.
Everything was turned upside down by the second yellow card received in the middle of the half by Lucas Ocampos. Just a couple of minutes later, PSV pulled one goal back – Ismael Saibari hit an incredible roundhouse shot into the top corner.
The Eindhoven club increased the pressure on the opponent’s goal, and the hosts could not stand it. Another cross from the defender, a pass from Jorbe Vertessen – and Nemanja Gudelj put the ball into his own goal.
In the remaining time, PSV were closer to the third goal, although for Sevilla, any result other than a victory meant the virtual collapse of hopes of reaching the playoffs. And the guests managed to snatch victory – Vertessen’s flank pass was completed by Ricardo Pepi.
Now the Dutch giants have eight points and second place. Sevilla is last with two points, and it still has purely theoretical chances of even third place, which would give it the right to advance to the Europa League. Later in the same Quartet B there will be a match between Arsenal (9 points after four rounds) and Lens (five points).
In the sixth round, PSV will host Arsenal, and Sevilla will visit Lens.
