In the away match against the Belgian club, Zarya will have to take risks in order to maintain their chances for the European spring
Acting head coach Zari Yuri Koval commented on the upcoming match against Ghent V Conference League.
“We are looking forward to a serious match, because we managed to watch not only the recorded games, but also watch Ghent’s match at the stadium against the leader of the Belgian championship. I really liked the game. The stadium was full, both teams fought from the first to the last minute. Unfortunately, because of the war, we very rarely play in front of full stands or even with fans at all. And if there are fans, they often don’t support our team.”
“In theory, we told the players that Lugansk was one of the most visited cities in Ukraine in terms of fan loyalty. We remembered that our mascot is a black and white cat, and a cat, as you know, will get out of any situation, no matter how difficult it is. This is the symbol of Dawn.”
“We understand that the game will be very important. In terms of composition, mobility and experience, Gent is an experienced team, both in European competitions and in the championship. I hope the guys understand that and we can play decently tomorrow.”
“In the game against Maccabi we may have overestimated our opponents a little. We should have played more aggressive football. We waited for our opponent’s mistakes and didn’t force him to make mistakes. But Gent are a team that will create pressure, also because they are playing at home. I am confident that we will have a chance to get a positive result.”
After four rounds, Zorya is in third place in Group B of the Conference League with four points. Gent is the leader of the quartet with 10 points. The Ukrainian team, in order to qualify for the European spring, needs to win the two remaining matches and hope for misfires from their opponents.
The match on the Ghent field will take place on Thursday, November 30. It will be served by a Greek brigade led by Evangelos Manouhos.
