The Portuguese club player is looking forward to an uncompromising battle for second place in the sixth round of the Champions League
Alan VarelaArgentine midfielder Portocommented on his team’s away match against Barcelona (1:2), and also announced an uncompromising confrontation with Miner in the sixth round Champions League.
“We played a good game. We knew we were going to face a great opponent and they managed to win in detail. Their goalkeeper did very well. My shot was not very strong, but the goalkeeper saved it well. If that goal had happened, we would have won the game.”
Varela is referring to the moment that took place in the Barcelona-Porto match at the end of the first half with the score 1:1. In that episode, blue garnet goalkeeper Iñaki Pena managed to cope with Alan’s shot. Shortly after the break, Joao Felix scored the winning goal to send Barcelona into the knockout stages of the Champions League.
“We have a final with Shakhtar ahead. We will work as hard as we can to qualify,” stressed 22-year-old Varela.
Barcelona secured their participation in the Champions League playoffs with 12 points. Porto remains in second place with nine points, ahead of Shakhtar (which, we recall, beat Antwerp with a minimal score) in additional indicators.
In the final round, Porto and Shakhtar will determine the winner of the second spot in the Champions League playoffs from Group H. The decisive confrontation will take place in Portugal on December 13. To qualify for the Champions League playoffs, Shakhtar only needs a victory.
In the first round match on September 19, the Miners in Hamburg lost to the Dragons with a score of 1:3.
