Former player of Ternopil Niva and Volyn Godovany died in the war with Russia

He won the European University Championships in 2009

Former professional football player Roman Godovany died in the war with the Russian occupiers. The 33-year-old hero died on November 29 during a combat mission as a result of the explosion of an enemy shell.

One-year-old is a graduate of Ternopil football. At the professional level in Ukraine, the defender played for Ternopil Niva and Volyn.

In the summer of 2009, Godovany won the European Championship among student teams, representing Ternopil National Pedagogical University. In 2010, together with TNPU, he became the bronze medalist of the continental championship.

Earlier it was reported that former professional football player Alexander Gonchar, vice-president of the Ukrainian Chess Federation Artem Sachuk, Dynamo fan Sergei Pavlichenko and coach of the Chernigov Sports School Vsevolod Bodun died in the war with Russia. Also in November, multiple world champion in kickboxing Sergei Lysyuk, winner of the Ukrainian hockey championship as part of the White Leopard Alexey Loginov and master of sports in boxing Ivan Soltysik died.

In the early hours of February 24, 2022, Russia launched rocket and air strikes on most Ukrainian cities and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 645th day.
