Current Premier League and Champions League champion English club accused of committing more than 100 financial violations
This Thursday, the 30th, the British newspaper “Daily Mail” announced that the Manchester City is being accused of having violated more than 115 financial rules of the Premier League and will be judged in 2024. According to the publication, the English club had broken the rules between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. An independent commission and the English league are investigating negotiations involving astronomical values for the Citizens, which could be punished. A UEFA also investigates the team for the same reasons.
In a recent case, the Everton, also from the Premier League, was punished for breaking Financial Fair-Play rules, losing 10 points in the championship table. Currently, the club is in second place in the English league, with only four points remaining.
The punishment caused Manchester City to come under pressure due to the accusations it has received for more than 10 years. Initially, the Citizens’ trial was scheduled for the end of 2024, but, due to the process, the sentence should only come out in 2025.
