The Japanese defender is a colleague and competitor of the Ukrainian Zinchenko
Arsenal negotiates with a lawyer Takehiro Tomiyasu about contract extension. The Japanese’s current agreement with the London club expires in 2025, and the agreement provides for an extension option.
Reportedly, the Gunners have already made an offer to the player and expect that the parties will be able to shake hands in the near future.
Tomiyasu, 25, is playing for Arsenal for the third season after joining from Bologna. His main position is right-back, but the Japanese can also play left-back with varying degrees of success. This season he played 18 matches for the Gunners in all competitions (one goal in the Premier League, two assists in the Champions League), and in some cases he sent Ukrainian Alexander Zinchenko to the reserve.
Let us remember that in October it was reported that the London club intends to extend Zinchenko until 2028.
The day before yesterday, November 29, Arsenal defeated Lens at home (6:0) and reached the playoffs of the Champions League. In the English Championship, the Londoners occupy first place after 13 rounds, one point ahead of Manchester City and two points ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa. On December 2, Mikel Arteta’s team will host Wolverhampton.
