The expert believes that the Ukrainian goalkeeper deserves to be the main one in Real Madrid, and if he has to leave, it will be to a strong European club
Former coach of Dynamo and the Ukrainian national team Jozsef Szabo commented on the situation around the goalkeeper Real Andrey Lunin and his uncertain future at the Madrid club.
“I have been worried about Lunin for a long time. It is still unclear whether he is leaving Real Madrid or not. His contract expires in the summer of 2024, but so far there is silence on it. Other clubs don’t want to pay money for Lunin because they plan to get him for free after the agreement with Real Madrid expires.”
“Return to Ukraine? In no case! Why should he return to Ukraine? Lunin is already accustomed to receiving a decent salary, and there is no war in Europe. He should look for the strongest European club.”
“I didn’t understand at all why Real signed Kepa. Did he perform miracles in goal? No! They took him because he was Spanish. I think it was not the coach there, but the president who insisted on signing him, because the Spaniards love their own. Lunin is definitely no weaker than Kepa, and in some moments even surpasses him. I don’t know why Ancelotti doesn’t consider Andrey as his first goalkeeper.”
Let us remind you that Blancos main goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is out of action until March. His replacement Kepa Arrizabalaga is also injured, so Lunin appeared on the field in recent meetings.
Andrey has already played six matches for the Madrid team this season. The goalkeeper missed four goals and kept a clean sheet in three matches.
Earlier it was reported that Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti advised the club management to sell the Ukrainian and in his place sign Kepa, who is now in the Blancos camp on loan from Chelsea.
At the beginning of this week, Carlo said that Lunin was going to fight for the position with Kepa after the Spaniard’s return.
On the eve of the match against Napoli in the Champions League, the Italian coach had an individual conversation with the Ukrainian. During the meeting, Ancelotti explained his position to the Ukrainian. According to the coach, the goalkeeper’s position is fundamentally different from other game roles, so the goalkeeper’s confidence and safety are extremely important for a successful game.
At the same time, Ancelotti appreciates the work of the Ukrainian goalkeeper. However, in the hierarchy of Blancos goalkeepers, the Italian does not see Lunin as number one.
Yesterday, November 30, Kepa began training with Real Madrid’s general group. Ancelotti hopes that the Spaniard will be able to play against Granada in the 15th round of Primera Liga. The match will take place on Saturday, December 2.
