Courtois will not play at the 2024 European Championships

Thibault decided to skip the European Championship

Goalkeeper Real Madrid and the national team Belgium Thibaut Courtois will not play in the upcoming Euro 2024.

The goalkeeper himself announced this. Courtois said he plans to conduct full training in the Blancos camp during the summer off-season in order to better prepare for the 2024/25 championship.

Courtois tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee during training in August and is out for six months. Theoretically, there is a possibility that Thibault will return to action by the end of the current season, but the player does not intend to force his recovery.

Real Madrid have urgently loaned Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for the current season. The “third” number of the Blancos is the Ukrainian Andrey Lunin, who this season successfully replaced the injured Courtois and Kepa (seven matches, four of which were clean sheets).

Belgium will play Slovakia and Romania in the Euro 2024 group stage. Ukraine could become another rival of the Belgians if they successfully make it to the playoffs of the League of Nations.

Euro 2024 will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches of the European Championship will be held in arenas in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
