Roman is not sure that Shevchenko will be able to hold the post of head of the UAF for a long time
Ukrainian forward Roman Zozulya spoke sharply about the Extraordinary Congress of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF)which is scheduled for January 25, 2024.
At the Congress, elections will be held for a new president and the governing bodies of the UAF, audit and football justice. At the same time, the previous XXV planned congress will be declared invalid.
According to Zozulya, the fate of the “elections” has been decided ahead of schedule: the new head of the UAF will be the ex-mentor of the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Shevchenko. Zozulya himself refused to participate in the elections.
“Of course, I wanted to go to the polls. I even found like-minded people who could become my team – Levchenko, Khudzhamov, we talked superficially with Fedetsky and with several other people not related to football.”
“But they made me understand that everything has already been decided – Shevchenko is being made president of the UAF. Everyone understands who is doing it. Regional associations vote, but behind them are the governors, and behind them is the Office of the President. By the way, voting is closed. I wonder why?”
“In short, I didn’t want to become a technical candidate. So we put this idea on pause. But we don’t give up on it altogether.”
“I think Shevchenko won’t last long. And in fair elections, my program and team will be stronger. I have a hard time imagining how Shevchenko is going to lead our football. From London?”
“And I’m very curious what his team will be like. The people who will be assigned to him from above, or the Italians again? It is clear that others will lead, and he will only sell his face.”
The UAF Executive Committee officially approved the holding of the Extraordinary Congress of the UAF on January 25, 2024. The meeting will take place in the Kiev House of Football, starting at 12:00. The issue of participation of FIFA and UEFA representatives in the event is being resolved.
Previously, the majority of the collective members of the UAF – regional football associations – made demands for the resignation of Anatoly Demyanenko from the post of first vice-president (UAF), the appointment of an interim secretary general of the organization, as well as an independent audit.
In May, the Pechersky Court of the city of Kyiv extended the suspension of the head of the UAF Andrei Pavelko from his post until July 9, 2023. In mid-June, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Lvov imprisoned Pavelko in a pre-trial detention center for a period of 60 days, then the functionary’s stay in custody was extended.
The bail of 9.88 million hryvnia, which was previously paid for the head of the UAF, was transferred in favor of the state. The latest decision of the Pechersk court extended Pavelko’s stay in the pre-trial detention center until January 18, 2024.
