The score is the same as against Poland in the first round, but the victory was much more difficult for Sryubko’s team
Ukrainian youth hockey team won a strong-willed victory over her peers from Estonia in the second round of the group stage Division 1B of the 2023 World Championship – 5:1.
Despite a similar score in favor of the Ukrainian juniors, the match in its content and intensity was fundamentally different from the first round confrontation against the Polish national team.
Andrey Sryubko’s team was inferior in the score after the first period – the opponent successfully converted the majority. 20 minutes before the end the score was 1:1. And only in the last period were the blue-yellows able to first put the squeeze on and then finish off their unyielding opponent.
Two big victories with a total goal difference of 10:2 – and the Ukrainian U-20 team temporarily led its sextet. Let us remind you that only first place in the group, according to the regulations, will allow our team to advance in class.
By the end of the week, Sryubko’s team will play three more matches at the World Cup. On Thursday, December 14, the Ukrainian youth team will compete with Italy, and on Friday with Croatia. Finally, on December 17, our U-20 team will meet with the hosts – the Slovenian youth team.
