Amazon Music Unlimited: a good dose of streaming on a limited budget

We analyze this platform that was launched in 2021 in Chile to tell you about its characteristics, how it works and if it is worth investing in it.

Although there are still lovers of vinyl, CDs and cassettes, there is no doubt that streaming is one of the most popular ways we currently have to consume music. That’s why it’s no surprise that many tech companies have launched their own platforms, much like YouTube, Apple and Amazon did after the success of Spotify.

Amazon Music is one of the latest providers to land in Chile. However, it is arguably less popular than other music streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music or even Tidal, the platform created by rapper and husband of Beyoncé, Jay Z.

But why hasn’t this Amazon streaming been so strong? Maybe it’s because it’s not available in as many countries as its competitors, or because the public just sees it as another platform, unaware of its virtues. In any case, it must be said that it has one of the largest number of subscription plan options and its advantages are many, so we invite you to know it a little more.

Amazon Music Unlimited is something like the tribute band of music streaming services. As it was born with posterity, it takes over the best features of some of its rivals -notably Spotify and Apple Music-, with a service that has also raised the sound quality a bit, even if it does not manage to reach the Tidal standards.

The user interface is very simple and you get used to it quickly. Both Amazon and Spotify have a navigation bar at the bottom of their mobile apps with a home screen, search, and an organized music library. The Amazon Music app offers a variety of themed stations, grouping together artists and bands from your listening history, adding genre matches where appropriate, as well as “made for you” style compilations based on your habits musical.

However, when it comes time to bring you new releases, Amazon Music isn’t as smart as Spotify, which does this selection job better, however, neither of these platforms usually lands in the right place on this element. So far, artificial intelligence still fails to read our thoughts.

Like Apple and Spotify, this application is trying to gain space in the world of podcasts which, although the others have an advantage, has a catalog worth examining.

Moreover, just like green logo streaming, in addition to streaming music, you can also download songs for offline playback. And if you have a smart speaker with Alexa, you can easily control the streaming service.

Amazon Music vs. Spotify: Which is the best?

Spotify might be the most popular music service in the world, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider Amazon Music. Both platforms offer their members unique features and prices.

In fact, Amazon Music strives to differentiate itself by offering higher fidelity tracks at no additional cost, providing a lossless listening experience that can approach the quality of the original recording. The service also has benefits for Amazon Prime members, and that’s a good thing.

Although Spotify is also planning to introduce a lossless audio option, it won’t be launched until later this year. That said, Spotify has an edge over Amazon in a few key areas. The service is known for its highly personalized playlists and sharing features, and its ad-supported plan offers more music and control than Amazon’s free option.

Below, you’ll find a comprehensive comparison of Amazon Music and Spotify’s features, plans, and pricing.

Spotify and Amazon Music offer many of the same features. For example, the catalog of songs available to listen to varies little and the exclusives are mostly insignificant. However, that’s not to say there aren’t key differences that might make subscribers choose one service over another.

In the case of Amazon Music, its mobile app includes its built-in Alexa voice assistant. This feature means that all music commands can be performed via hands-free voice commands. The version of Alexa accessed through the music app can also perform other skills. Spotify offers a “Hey Spotify” feature that lets members use their voice to find artists and songs, but its functionality isn’t as robust as Alexa’s.

The other main feature of the Amazon Music app includes X-Ray song lyrics. This is a very useful feature that allows the lyrics to scroll while the song is playing for a karaoke-like experience. Spotify has it with some songs.

As attractive as these Amazon features are, Spotify still has a distinct edge when it comes to its excellent music algorithms, which the service implements in the form of personal playlists. “Weekly Discovery” and other playlists definitely set the music service apart from the rest. Which yes, and the big plus of Amazon Music is its sound quality, it is much higher than that of Apple and Spotify.

The final result

A few years ago, whether you should use Spotify or Amazon Music – in its earlier, more basic version – was an easy choice. Now, in 2021, that choice isn’t so clear. The good news is that both services offer great features at reasonable prices.

As we told you, for one thing, Amazon Music Unlimited includes CD-quality sound with your basic subscription at no extra cost. The service also offers a nice discount for Prime members.

Nevertheless, Spotify remains a good choice for most people thanks to its masterfully organized playlists and smooth music sharing.

Amazon Unlimited offers three payment tiers, starting with an individual tier that costs 4,150 Chilean pesos. This includes a three month free promotion. It also has a family plan ($6,290) and another deal for users with an Echo device, which costs half the individual plan ($2,200).
