Kovalenko decided to continue performing in La Spezia

Ukrainian midfielder intends to sign Shakhtar

Midfielder of Atalanta Viktor Kovalenko decided to stay in Spices. The Ukrainian considered options for continuing his career between the Italian club and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Spezia continues to negotiate with Atalanta to extend Victor’s loan. The Bergamasks are not against Kovalenko leaving, but are more interested in selling the player.

Earlier, La Spezia chief executive Riccardo Pechini discussed with representatives of Atalanta a new lease term for the 26-year-old Ukrainian. Spezia is going to sell captain Giulio Maggiore in Torino, and he is just playing in the same position with Kovalenko.

Shakhtar, for whom Viktor played from 2014 to 2021, is also interested in the return of the midfielder. The midfielder moved from the Donetsk club to Atalanta in February 2021, but in six months he played only three minutes in the Bergamaskov shirt. The current contract of the Ukrainian with the Italian club runs until the summer of 2025.

Viktor spent the past season with Spezia. In 26 matches of the last Italian championship, Kovalenko scored one goal and gave four assists. The Eaglets managed to keep their place in Serie A, taking 16th place.
