All because of the election of the head of the Brazilian Football Confederation
FIFA gave a warning Brazilian Football Confederation about possible sanctions.
The essence of the issue is the election of the head of the CBF. The confederation’s current president, Ednaldo Rodriguez, took office last year, but Brazil’s two highest courts have confirmed election irregularities.
A Rio de Janeiro court suspended Rodriguez and his team from work. The CBF intends to hold new elections in January 2024, but FIFA insists on a later date.
If the CBF refuses FIFA’s instructions, the International Football Federation intends to impose sanctions. In particular, this is the exclusion of the Brazilian national teams (including the country’s main team) and Brazilian clubs from international competitions.
The Brazilian national team ranks sixth in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup after six matches.
