FIFA and CONMEBOL will closely monitor the election of the federation president in the South American country.
Brazil is in danger of being left without international football tournaments for the next few years. The most titled national team in the world may suffer due to the election of the President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).
According to ESPN, FIFA and CONMEBOL have already warned the country’s football federation of their concerns regarding a possible change in leadership.
In the past, a court in Ri de Janeiro removed the current president and his appointed officials for violations in previous elections. And the Supreme Sports Court asked that the new elections be held within a month.
FIFA and CONMEBOL will send observers to Brazil on January 8, while the confederation has no right to change leadership. In addition, organizations are reminded that any interference by third parties will be severely punished.
“This means that the CBF, its national teams and its representative clubs will no longer be eligible to participate in any international competitions during the suspension,” the letter said.
Earlier, the FIFA President commented on the court’s decision to lift the ban on the creation of the Super League.
