Andy vs Joseph rematch could happen eight years later
Former World Heavyweight Champion Andy Ruiz responded to rumors about his possible fight against the New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker.
“Hopefully, if that’s what they want, I’m in.” I wanted Parker to beat the crap out of Wilder because he was talking all this crap, like he’s going to knock out this guy, that guy… I was really happy Joseph Parker won.”
“He beat me last time. I wouldn’t mind rewinding. In May or June because I had surgery on my right shoulder. We need to wait a month or two.”
Andy previously planned to fight Deontay Wilder, but the boxers were unable to reach a deal. The WBC Board of Governors in August rescinded its order for a mandatory title eliminator between the two Americans.
Ruiz last fought in September 2022. The former world champion defeated Luis Ortiz by unanimous decision. At the end of October, the American underwent surgery and announced that he would return to the ring in 2024.
The first fight between Parker and Ruiz took place in 2016. Joseph defeated his opponent by majority decision to win the vacant WBO heavyweight title.
On the night of December 23-24, the New Zealander defeated Wilder by unanimous decision at the “Day of Reckoning” boxing evening in Riyadh. After the defeat, 38-year-old Deontay hinted at his possible retirement from boxing.
