After the most successful stage of the Four Hills Tour in history, the coach believes that it is possible to aim for the top 20
Coach of the Ukrainian national ski jumping team Vladimir Boshchuk commented on the performances of his players at the stages Four Hills Tourin particular, the recent phase in the Austrian Innsbruckwhere Ukrainians achieved a historical achievement.
“This Tour started a little hard for us. The athletes had a lot of worries. Of course, there was a great desire, but the start was carried out a little differently than planned. With each start, the guys approached the competitive rhythm more confidently. Therefore, I am quite pleased with the results they showed in Innsbruck. Quite stable jumps. This is an impetus for future jumps, I think we will improve them throughout the season.”
“I don’t think fatigue is taking its toll. I myself understand how psychologically and physically difficult it is during the Tour. Therefore, we try to rest more time and do not do many physical activities. The main thing is to concentrate technically. Vitaly Kalinichenko is in very good physical condition, Marusyak looks a little worse psychologically, so we need to focus on performing the jump correctly.”
“Top 30? I think that everything is possible, not even in the top 30, but in the top 20. There is a larger springboard, you can fly 140 meters. With each start, Marusyak approaches his good jumps, which he showed last year. Becomes more confident with every jump. Therefore, I hope that Bischofshofen will become more successful, although we also showed a good result in Innsbruck.”
Let us remind you that on January 3 in Innsbruck, two Ukrainians not only reached the main round, but also made it into the top 40 at the Four Hills Tournament. Vitaly Kalinichenko took 40th place at that competition, and Evgeniy Marusyak took 35th place, a record for Ukraine.
Let us note that in 2008, Vladimir Boshchuk himself became only the second Ukrainian (after Vasily Gribovich) to compete in the main round of the Tour. Then, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, the current national team coach took 47th place.
The current season of the Four Hills Tour will end in Bischofshofen, Austria on January 6.
