Kalinichenko failed to qualify
Ski jumper Evgeniy Marusyak rewrote history again – he became the first Ukrainian represented in the main round of the stage Four Hills Tour in Austrian Bischofshofen.
To overcome the qualifications (which the Ukrainians had never managed at this stage before) they had to show a result in the top 50, and Evgeniy successfully coped with this. He managed to jump 122.5 meters, which allowed him to get 119.5 points and take 45th place.
Another Ukrainian, Vitaly Kalinichenko, failed to qualify. A jump of 120.5 meters and a score of 113.4 placed him in unbeatable 53rd place.
Previously, Marusyak, in company with Kalinichenko, became a co-author of another historical achievement. On January 3 in Innsbruck, two Ukrainians not only reached the main round, but also made it into the top 40 at the Four Hills Tournament. Vitaly took 40th place at that competition, and Evgeniy took a record 35th place for Ukraine.
On the eve of the current stage, the coach of the Ukrainian national ski jumping team, Vladimir Boshchuk, suggested that his players could soon aim for the top 30, and even the top 20.
The main round of the last stage of the Four Hills Tour will take place in the aforementioned Bischofshofen tomorrow, January 6th.
