The Euroleague has stopped its investigation into the Ukrainian referee’s statement about attempted bribery in the 2021 EuroCup finals

An internal investigation found no clear evidence of wrongdoing

Basketball Euroleague officially announced the termination of the investigation into the refereeing Eurocup final 2021.

This investigation was initiated by statements from Ukrainian ex-arbiter Nikolai Ambrosov, who accused two colleagues of attempting to bribe one of the final matches of the mentioned tournament.

The Euroleague press release reads:

“As a result of the investigation and based on the data collected and analyzed, it was determined that there is no clear evidence to establish an attempt to pay a bribe, which, therefore, makes the case against the associated persons inconclusive and will therefore be dismissed.”

Let us recall: in August 2023, former Ukrainian basketball referee Ambrosov accused his colleagues on the refereeing team of the 2021 EuroCup final of trying to bribe him to ensure the result in favor of UNICS Kazan. According to Ambrosov, the famous Ukrainian judge Boris Ryzhik was involved in the case. The latter, in turn, called the accusations “baseless and false.”

In December 2022, Ambrosov was disqualified for life by the FBU executive committee for participation in corruption schemes, as well as for forgery of documents.
